My Words & Sentences
What This Solves
When you run into a word you do not know, the natural thing to do is write it down and look at it again later. But if you write it in sticky notes, a notes app, or a spreadsheet, those words end up scattered everywhere and never get reviewed — so writing them down was wasted effort. Aelano’s My Words & Sentences keeps your saved words, phrases, and sentences together and connects them to your study content, the review system, and the original source. Saved items keep their context so you can return to the source, while saved words also have mastery status for review.
Where to Find My Words & Sentences
Open Aelano; the bottom navigation bar has a Words & Sentences entry.
Where the Saved Items Come From
Saved words and phrases mainly come from two sources:
Words you add yourself
In the player, use Word Lookup, then save the word from its card. This is the most common way — while studying a piece of content closely, you add unfamiliar words as you meet them.
Words AI extracts from the content
Whenever a piece of content finishes transcribing, Aelano uses AI to extract the key vocabulary automatically — weighing the difficulty of the content against your learning level to pick out words you are likely to be unfamiliar with. These words are not forced into My Words & Sentences; they sit in the content details for reference. Save the useful ones and skip the rest.
Filter and Organize My Words & Sentences
My Words & Sentences shows a mixed list of saved words and sentences by default. Tap Filter to choose a content type:
- Words: show saved words and phrases
- Sentences: show saved complete sentences
- All: show both words and sentences
When Words is selected, you can also filter by status:
- All: every saved word
- Mastered: words you have marked as known; they no longer appear in review reminders
- Not Mastered: words you have not mastered yet, which enter the review system
The filter sheet also supports language, word type, level, and vocabulary-list filters, plus sorting by save time or difficulty. The search field searches words or sentences according to the current content filter.
A typical workflow looks like this:
- A word starts as Not Mastered when you add it
- After a few rounds of review, once you really know it → mark it as Mastered
- If one day you find you have forgotten it → mark it back to Not Mastered and keep reviewing
If what you want to save is a complete sentence, fixed expression, or usage context, switch to the Sentences tab and use Sentence Bookmarks and Notes. Sentence bookmarks do not automatically enter word review, but they let you return to the source, replay the line, and write a note.
What the Word Card Can Do
Tap any saved word in My Words & Sentences and the card shows:
- Definition, phonetics, and part of speech (the same as word lookup in the player)
- Source: which piece of content and which sentence the word originally came from
- More sources: sentences where this word also appears in other content in your library (if there are any)
- Play pronunciation
The card’s action menu also has:
- View in context: jump straight back to the content and sentence where the word first appeared, with the player opening at that point
- Hide this source: if a source is not meaningful, remove it from this word card
- Mark as Mastered / Not Mastered: switch the status
- Delete: remove it from My Words & Sentences entirely (with a confirmation prompt)
Exporting Saved Words
If you want to take your saved words outside the app for practice — dictation, printing, homework for a teacher, or pairing them with other tools — you can export them. Export currently applies to the word results, not saved sentences.
Two formats
- CSV: a spreadsheet file you can open in Excel / Numbers / Google Sheets, handy for filtering, sorting, and building Anki cards
- PDF: a formatted document, good for printing or reading directly
Three templates
Aelano’s export does more than list the words — it also offers templates designed for practice:
| Template | What it shows | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Write the word | Shows the translation, leaves the word column blank | Read the translation and write the word — basic dictation practice |
| Write the translation | Shows the word, leaves the translation column blank | Read the word and write the translation — check whether you really understand the meaning |
| Show everything | Shows both the word and the translation | Use it as plain reference material |
Choosing which words to export
The export screen tells you how many entries will be exported, and what it exports is every word under the current tab. So if you only want the ones you have not mastered, switch to the Not Mastered tab before exporting, and nothing from Mastered gets mixed in.
A Few Practical Tips
- Be restrained about what you save: many people save a word every time they get stuck, and three months later My Words & Sentences holds 800 words that are too many to review and too discouraging to open. Save only the words that are genuinely unfamiliar and worth remembering. Learning 5-10 new words a day is more sustainable than 50.
- Make good use of View in context: when you review a word, seeing how it is used in its original sentence leaves a much stronger impression than the definition alone — remembering a word is not remembering a definition, it is remembering the situation it is used in.
- Keep the mastery status current: if you get a word right three times in a row during review, mark it as mastered so the review system stops bringing it up, and save your energy for the words you genuinely have not retained.
- Export CSV for Anki: if you already use Anki, CSV imports quickly for more specialized SRS review. That said, Aelano’s built-in review is usually enough, unless you have a habit you want to keep.
- Export PDF to print: when you are commuting or on a lunch break and do not want to stare at a phone, paper word cards are an option too.
Common Questions
What is included in My Words & Sentences?
It includes two content types: saved words and phrases, plus complete sentences you saved separately. Use Filter to show words, sentences, or both.
Do AI-extracted words enter My Words & Sentences if I never save them?
No. AI-extracted words sit in the content details for reference, and they only appear in My Words & Sentences after you save them.
What happens when I delete a word?
The word is removed from My Words & Sentences, and its mastery status and review progress are deleted along with it. If you save the same word again later, it starts from zero.
Does exporting use up membership quota?
Exporting itself does not consume any quota. CSV and PDF are available to all users.
Does it sync across devices?
Yes. My Words & Sentences, mastery status, and review progress all sync with your account.
Can I search for a word or sentence?
Yes. The search field at the top searches words or sentences according to the current content filter.
